I can’t wait to hear from you!

Are you an author or fan looking to commission a piece of art? Booking for 2026 Q1 & Q2 is OPEN. Read up on my prices, terms, and process below, then submit your project! I’ll get back to you by the end of the month when booking closes.

2026 Commission Prices

Single Character Portrait - $500

Tip-ins/Character Cards/Endpapers - $1000

Front Cover- $1200

Wrap Around Cover - $1500

Jacket Covers - $1800

  • Excluding the single character portrait, these prices include up to two characters and a background. Each additional character + $350 to total

** These prices include a commercial license, however, I retain the right to distribute the image however I see fit. This may include giveaways, selling prints or licensing to other parties. If you would like to purchase all rights to your commission (minus my right to share to my portfolio), add an additional 100% commission fee to the total.

What is the process for commissioning you like?

The first step for you, the commissioner is to pay a $100 non-refundable deposit at the time of booking. Your next task will be creating a detailed ‘brief’ and delivering that to me via email at least 4 weeks before the final delivery date of your commission. If at 2 weeks out before your final delivery date you have failed to respond to my emails or deliver your brief to me, I will have to consider your project as a cancellation. You will not receive your deposit back if this happens.

What should I include in my brief?

Detailed descriptions of the characters, the setting/scenery, costuming, any context that helps describe their relationship to each other, the mood/energy of the scene, the emotions of the characters, etc. If you are able to send the chapter or segments of the scene that I can read that is also helpful!

Reference images can be very helpful when creating a brief, but I ask that you refrain from using AI images in your brief. I know it can be tricky to discern what is or isn’t AI when searching for reference, so I won’t fault you if something sneaks into your brief, but I appreciate the effort to refrain from using it!

The second step is where I come in! My process happens in three ‘phases’:

  1. Sketch

  2. Color Sketch

  3. Final

At each phase I will send you an image, where you will be given the opportunity to request alterations. I will accept 3-4 alterations per phase before requiring an additional fee of $30 per alteration. Large alterations (like major adjustments to posing and costuming) are best made during the sketching and color sketch phases. If we reach the final stage and you wish to make a major adjustment, we will need to discuss the amount of work it will take to complete, and how much of an additional fee will be required. Things like tweaking facial expressions, changing /adding small details, and color shifting are not considered major adjustments.

When the final image is approved, I’ll create a google drive folder with your hi-res images including: .pdf, .psd, .jpg and an image formatted for social media with a border. When final payment is received you will receive a link to the google drive! Don’t forget to tag me (@emmagilletteart) when posting your commission on Instagram!

What if I need to cancel the project after we’ve started?

It depends on what stage in the process that you cancel! If you cancel the project during the sketching phase, I will refund you the first payment minus the $100 non-refundable deposit. If you cancel AFTER the sketch has been delivered, then you will receive a 50% refund of the first payment. If you must cancel the project after I have already started rendering the image but have no finished it yet, you will not receive a refund for the first payment, but I also will not require you to pay the last installment. You may use the sketches that I have sent to you up until that point.

Do you use AI?

NO. I do not use any AI at any point in my process! I do not work with authors or companies that use AI, either.

How Does Payment Work?

I will accept 50% of the commission fee (minus the $100 deposit) at delivery of the first sketch, and then the rest before delivery of final files.

I take: Venmo, PayPal, Visa and Bank ACH transfers

In the case that you must cancel the project after it has already been started but hasn’t been completed yet, you will not be expected to pay the remaining 50% of the commission fee, but will not be eligible for a refund of the first 50% payment.

Let’s work together

Due to demand I won’t be able to take on every project that is submitted during booking, but I will do my best to accommodate as many clients as possible! Please let me know in your submission if you would like to stay on my waitlist to be notified of an opening due to cancellation.
